New Releases, 27 July 2010

Oh, we got some great stuff lined up for you this week, I can't even believe that these movies are going to be on our shelves in a MATTER OF DAYS!!!  If you begin to hyperventilate as you read the descriptions, just remember to breathe into a paper bag and then get down here and rent them immediately.

CLASH OF THE TITANS
Pitch-perfect update of the stop-motion classic (also in our library), this one has heroic heroes, flying horses and angry, vengeful Gods
Review     Trailer

REPO MEN
Has nothing to do with the Emilio Estevez Repo Man. This one is about Jude Law and Forrest Whitaker taking peoples organs in a not-so-distant future...
Review     Trailer

THE ART OF THE STEAL
Fantastic documentary about how the city of Philadelphia managed to scuttle a wealthy collector's will after his death, to get its hands on his unparalleled collection of art.  Played Ragtag, well worth a watch
Review     Trailer

VINCERE
Wildly acclaimed foreign film about Mussolini's crazy mistress, or something along those lines.
Review     Trailer

OPERATION ENDGAME
I don't think this one's about chess.

MISSING LYNX
Antonio Banderas' voice stars in this new animated flick

NEIGHBOR
This photo has nothing to do with the film, which is a horror movie that is not particularly well-represented online.

Now put the paper bag down slowly, get in your car/bicycle/rascal mobility scooter and get on down!

New Releases, 20 July 2010

We've been busy this week at 9th St Video, busy scaling the HEIGHTS OF FAME AND FORTUNE. Publicity is our middle name, and if you didn't see the stories about us in the papers you should definitely check them out (here and there). Oh yeah, we rent movies too. Here are some new ones for Tuesday.

THE RUNAWAYS
Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning star as rockers Joan Jett and somebody else in this psuedo-biopic.
Review     Trailer

COP OUT
Cop spoof starring a lot of funny people, and Bruce Willis
Review     Trailer

THE MOTHER
From Ragtag, a thrilling murder mystery from the director of THE HOST, a fantastic film that we have in our vast movie reservoir. See both and talk about them to everyone you meet!
Review     Trailer

A TOWN CALLED PANIC
A wacky and hilarious stop-motion film, released by the studio that brought us WALLACE AND GROMIT. (Which we also have, vast reservoir, bla bla bla) "There's really very little to say about this film beyond that it's absolutely brilliant." --The following reviewer, whoever that is

ULTIMATE HEIST
Hollywood is going to be upset that they can't make any more heist films. (NOTE--the still above is not from ULTIMATE HEIST, but Jean Reno probably does this at some point during the film.)
IMDb Page (couldn't find much else)

THE LOSERS
Zoe Saldana, whom you've probably seen blue and in three dimensions, stars in this special-ops-caper-in-Bolivia flick
Review     Trailer

THE RED SHOES
Powell and Pressberger's 1948 classic, now in a fine new Criterion edition.

So come on by and pick up some of these and other fine films that literally cascade from our walls. Have a great week!

MOVIE ATTACK!
CHLOE
Julian Moore suspects Liam Neeson of cheating on her, so she hires a hooker to seduce him....Expect this one to be duplicitous and sexy...and counterintuitive.
Review     Trailer

GREENBERG
Ben Stiller stars in this kvetch-fest from Squid and the Whale director Noah Baumbach. Played at Ragtag.
Review     Trailer

THE BOUNTY HUNTER
Noah Baumbach wishes he directed this one.
Review     Trailer

OUR FAMILY WEDDING
America Ferrara and Forrest Whitaker star in this wacky wedding comedy
Review     Trailer

SAINT JOHN OF LAS VEGAS
Steve Buscemi and Sarah Silverman star in this wacky gambling comedy
Review     Trailer

I guess that wasn't really an attack. More of a decent slapfight. Have a great week!

New Releases, 6 July 2010

Not everything has to be monumental to be great. Napoleon was tiny and he knew how to have a good time, poisonous frogs are small but deadly and today's list of movies is short but massive in cinematic awesomeness. Check it out:

A SINGLE MAN
Fresh from Ragtag's screens come a hit from the past year, starring Colin Firth as an extremely well dressed gent. Regularly called one of the best of 2009.
Review     Trailer

GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
A film that also graced Ragtag's screens, this one based on the smash novels from now-dead Stiegg Laarrssonn. See it before the Americans remake it (happening now)!
Review     Trailer

BROOKLYN'S FINEST
Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke and Don Cheadle are a bunch of cops. I'm guessing some crazy crimes go down and nobody can solve them except...Brooklyn's finest

2 EVERYTHING 2 TERRIBLE 2
From the great disseminators of awful video, in the vein of Found Footage and TV Carnage, comes a new collection of fine material. Check out the website if you do nothing else, it's great.

See? Barely any reading at all, and so much greatness. Have a fantastic week!
